  Turtle World:
Turtle World first evolved in the early 1980's when we  needed a name to describe our hobby of keeping reptiles, especially turtles.    Since our animals were not only local but native to other areas around the world "TURTLE WORLD" just seemed right!     So a logo was designed and copyrighted and "TURTLE WORLD" was born!  We began doing educational programs for local parks and community events on reptiles.     As time progressed so did our programs.    We incorporated many  things into our programs; began doing educational displays; and the number of both began to increase.    We continue to try and improve each program and display.  (our mission)   In keeping with our love of animals we strive to limit the stress on them and keep them as well a our audiences safe from any harm.   We firmly believe that no living creature can "own" another; they can only own the responsibility of their well being and safety.   Turtle World always was and continues to be, a family operated hobby!     Many of our animal friends have been adopted in from either mistreating care givers; people who no longer could care for them; and/or confiscations by other agencies.    Just as no child should be derived the opportunity to experience the out-of-doors, no animal should be in a place where they are no longer wanted.    We will always strive to either make or find a quality and loving home for any animal that is no longer wanted.   Everyone in our family is involved some how and all share in the love of the animals, nature and the outdoors.     In fact, many of our programs turn into family vacations!    How often does a family get to take  a vacation WITH their pets!!     Once you see one of our shows or displays, all of this will become very visible.

 The Family:

Sam is usually the one doing programs.     With a gift to gab and a "God given talent" to work with animals, things just come natural to him.    He enjoys the outdoors and all it has to offer.    Activities include but are by far not limited to:  Camping; hiking; Boy Scouting; Girl Scouting; rock climbing; canoeing, rafting and boating; hunting and fishing; primitive skills; volleyball; and anything that will permit him to be outdoors.     Sam is also a founding member of the Eastern Lycoming YMCA board of directors and served on the Muncy Borough Council.   Sam with the help of a few other adults in his community, started up the Muncy Boy Scout Troop 25 and is proud of its scouts and level of activity it demonstrates today.    He believes that you get out of something what you put into it.   This applies to his animals - he cares for them and works with them and in return they make his programs and shows so much better.   He has great pride in his family history, his family and just as importantly, the animals he cares for.    It is of his opinion that one living creature can not "own" another.    They only own the responsibility to care for the ones put under their charge.

Beth is the one who spoils everyone (including Sam!).     She is often the person behind the scenes.    She has many of the tortoises and iguana's so spoiled that they run to the enclosure door when she walks in just to see what for treat she may have!   She also cooks for the animals!    Yep that's right she bakes high quality and nutritious treats for the animals and despite what Sam may tell you she cooks treats for him too!   She is also the one who cleans up the messes made when we clean up the messes!     Jaws (our American alligator) is about the only one that doesn't get along with Beth.    But then there are not too many that he does get along with!    Beth is the boss of the Lazy B Rabbit-tree and Chinchila Ranch.   The chins are her babies and she spends hours just talking to them (Sam gets jealous!).    She also helps cleaning, caring and with veterinary chores and so much more.    Between the house, the kids, and the critters, she never runs out of things to keep her busy!  She is picked on constantly by Sam and his buddies but all out of love and appreciation!   She does so much but most of all she keeps Sam in line!

The Kids
get involved too.     They understand the "dos and don'ts" and pitch in when needed.    When ever there is assistance needed they are there to do what ever needs to be done.    Only two of them left at home and Sam and Beth will be lost when the youngest one goes off to college ( have several years to go yet!) and are left to fend for ourselves!

The youngest at home is Ali.   She can tell you what each reptile is, as well as name most of the dinosaurs!    She is a real kick to take to reptile shows, as she will go from table to table pointing out her favorite species!    She may spend hours hand feeding the tortoises on a nice day!   She helps by taking care of her critters responsibly and thus less chores for everyone else!

Tamal is the house hold work horse.     When ever there is help that requires muscles, he is paged into duty!    He is also the artist of the family.    If it wasn't for him we couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler.    We hope to have some of his fantastic artistry on the site some day!   He has done poster art for Our Town 2010 campaign, artwork for several other projects as well.   He truely has been given a talent that most of us can only sit back and awe.   He has graduated High School now and has already started attending college - they grow up fast!

Jessie graduated from Bloomsburg University at the top of her class.    She married a wonderful guy and is a teacher in a local school district and is beginning a family of her own in the very house she was brought up in!    She spent hours watching the booths and filing Sam's stack of "stuff" so he could find them again!      She is a smart cookie and she and her husband have the kindest of hearts.   They are both involved with a local fire company as well as many other activities.    And of course with a baby ... they will continue to stay busy!!!

Joshua helped in babysitting our displays as well and ... well if you are reading this, than it is because of Josh!     He is the computer whiz.     He designs web pages and teaches web page design classes.    His is in charge of the computer system for a fairly large school district and has a home of his own that keeps him busy (and poor no doubt!).   Sam drives him crazy with the continuous barrage of "how do I get this to work?".     So if something on this site isn't working; it isn't his fault, it just means he hasn't fixed what ever Sam screwed up yet!      Joshua and Jessie are also in our promotional video.

Zabrina graduated from Bucknell University with honors.   She and her family have purchased a home and they both work for a large hospital organization.   They stay busy camping, cycling and of course maintaining their new home!

Tilaka is out on her raising a wonderful family and providing us with grandchildren to fuss over!   She has gone back to college, works full time and still manages to keep up her house and care for three little ones!

Slowly all our kids are striking out on their own.    We look forward to the day when we can retire and play with our animals and let all the kids support us!!    We are proud of all the kids and appreciate what they do for us and our cause.

Sam's parents play a big roll in TURTLE WORLD.    His father had some "reservations" about snakes but always supported Sam's adventures.    The result was he would help in the designing and building of the displays and cages - that way he was certain none would be escaping!     Sam's mom was the one who finished painting after Sam had thought he was finished!    She would make sure everyone at our displays was well fed and often would be watching over things while Sam took a break.    In our photo gallery you can see a photo of Sam's mother and his dog Aggie watching things while Sam is off "playing".     Into her 80's now Sam's mom still can be seen helping at the displays and set ups!      Sam's father has passed away but he lives in every thing Sam does.     Always treasure every moment you share with those you love.

Sam's mom:    Beth's Dad:

Beth's parents also get involved.   We did a large Sports Expo and Beth's father Jim "jumped" right in and gave a big helping hand!    Who say's you can't teach new dogs old tricks!    Jim said he "never thought he would be doing this!"   Her parents are always there to help in any way they can.   Numerous times they have taken care of Sam as he travels.    They are two wonderful people.   You never get enough time to share with your parents - even though it may be a lifetime!

Our "family" goes beyond the immediate family.    We have friends that are invaluable to us in all the do to help as well.    From assisting with display setups and breakdowns sometimes into the 2:00 - 3:00am hours; to baby sitting; to painting; to hauling to even finding ways to make our displays more attractive and easier!     You name it they have "pitched in" at one time or another.   You may have many friends but you normally have only a few good friends-the kind that are there for you when ever for whatever.    We are fortunate to have many.   It is absolutely adorable when Sam's Goddaughter Erin, would be assisting in tearing down a set up.    She would go right to town and is a real worker - this was at the ages of three and four years old!  She has been doing it as long as she has been able to walk!       We are grateful to all of our friends and yes they are and will always be, our family!!

It is our mission to provide an avenue for the general public to be able to learn about nature, and the wonders it posses, through educational programs and displays.      We shall do all we can to find homes for unwanted animals and to educate the public on keeping animals as pets.    In so doing, we shall promote captive breeding vs. taking from the wild and do what we can to install a conservation message.    We are pleased to add the Lazy B Heritage Homestead to our credentials.   For additional information on the Lazy B click here.

TURTLE  WORLD  is truly a labor of love.    A lot goes into everything we do and we wouldn't have it any other way.     So the next time you see a TURTLE WORLD display or program, realize the number of people behind the scenes and be sure to thank whomever may be there at that time, for it is definitely a family project!

Be sure to see where you can catch up to us in person!    Just click on the SEE US button!     Looking forward to meeting you!

There are many different programs we can provide.    All of our programs involve live, non-venomous animals and are presented in a clean, entertaining and educational format.    We do our best to adapt programs to each individual's need.    For example, a library may be doing a "something wild theme" so our program would evolve around that theme & tie into literature available.    Another example may be a school doing animal classification and so we would touch on that throughout the program and so on.    Are programs are meant to be educational and we try to capture the audience attention by being entertaining as well.    We have been on television, radio and have had numerous articles written about us and we continue to strive to do what we love to do ... bring animals and kids to the same playing field!

Many of our animals are adopted or rescued.   We do what we can to provide for all their needs.    We will make or find a home for any animal that is in need of a good home.   We refer those with dogs and cats to their local shelters but most other animals we will do what we can for them.   We firmly believe that : "no living creature can ever own another.    One can only own the responsibility of taking care of it".

We do not try to install any religious beliefs nor to do we attempt to install any evolutionary theory.    If someone would like to know our opinion, we will speak to them individually.    We believe that what a person believes is that individuals personal right.    It s a decision that everyone must make on their own.

Our mission is to provide an avenue for the general public to be able to learn about & appreciate nature, and the wonders it posses, through our educational programs and displays.      We shall do all we can to find homes for unwanted animals and to educate the public on keeping animals as pets.    In so doing, we shall promote captive breeding vs taking from the wild and do what we can to install a conservation message.

Reptiles of Turtle World

These programs cover what makes a reptile so unique.   We utilize live non-venomous animals from the snake, crocodilian, lizard and turtle and tortoise groups.    We also touch on reptiles in the pet trade as well as reptiles on television.   This is by far our most popular and most asked for program.    It is adaptable for any age group and designed for audiences of all ages.    This program is popular with elementary schools, State Parks, nature centers and so on.   We always invite questions and under most circumstances if desired are able to provide a reptile for participants to touch.     For more details send us an e-mail at:   turtleworld@suscom.net

Snakes!!                       Yes that is Ronald McDonald!
You guessed it - this program is all about those awesome serpents!   We go beyond a squirming serpent show.    We dwell into the snakes behavior and abilities; define what to do and what not to do when a person encounters these creatures in the wild; define why they are important in the human world; and so much more!    Again we use no venomous species and each snake is handled.   Often if so requested we will have a snake available for the participants to pet and get close too.   This program, although geared for any age, seems to be more popular in mixed audiences of all ages.   This program is often requested by State Parks and Nature Centers.    If you would more detail on this program, send us an e-mail and we would be happy to assist you!     E-mail us at:  turtleworld@suscom.net

  Turtle World Educational Displays
Our displays have become very popular as "drawing cards" for events and functions such as sport shows and community activities.  We can set a display up indoors or (temperatures permitting) outdoors.    Our outdoor displays normally require a 10X20 foot space (size of our tent) and availability to electricity for lighting.   All animals are displayed in a manner that permits "close up viewing" with no chance of animal /human contact.    The displays can include a variety of reptiles representing snakes, lizards , crocodilians and of course turtles!    Each reptile has a tag explaining not only what it is but facts about it as well.    Many community events will advertise that we will be part of thier event to help promote the event overall.    We also will list the event on our web site program schedule page and provide a link to their web site if so desired.     If you would like Turtle World to be part of your event,, drop us a line and we will be happy to help in anyway we can.    E-mail us at:   turtleworld@suscom.net

Pet Responsibility

Too often individuals purchase an animal for a pet not realizing what they are getting in to!    We feel that since our purpose is to educate, conserve, and provide homes for unwanted pets, that we need to address the issue that is the start of all of this.    So we have developed the program entitled: "Pet Responsibility".   Here we utilize various "pets" to teach proper pet responsibility.    We explain how every animal is different and how some are not the ideal pet for everyone.    We touch on the legal responsibilities of pet ownership.       We also discuss moral responsibility .    We truely believe that "one living creature can never own another; one can only own the responsibility of taking care of that creature".   We discuss the role of the breeders, the pet shop, and the care taker of the pet.    We utilize many different types of animals in this program which may include any combination of:  rabbits; hamsters; gerbils; guinea pigs; mice; ferrets; dogs; snakes; lizards; turtles; tortoises; crocodilians; and so on.      This is a new program started in 2005 and so far has been well received.    It is geared toward classroom size groups and although valuable to all ages, was originally designed to address school age children.  It is a great program for elementary classes, summer activity groups, 4H groups, even retirement and nursing homes!    We hope that Pet Shops will see the value of this type of program as well and utilize it as a type of customer service seminar.    We stress the fact that many of the animals we utilize and care for have been adopted in via one reason or another.    If you would like to discuss this program in more detail, send us an e-mail at:  turtleworld@suscom.net

Birthday Party Programs

Our birthday party programs are very flexible.   We will do a presentation
and if requested will have an animal available for the "partiers" to touch,
hold and/or get a picture taken with!    We do not provide any refreshments,
party favors, decorations or anything other than the entertainment.    We are
more than willing to help by giving you ideas and suggestions regarding any
particular theme you may want to use.

Animal Connections:

Ever see the look on a child's face when they touch a snake for the first time?   Or how about an elderly person who has never seen a ferret before and gets an opportunity to hold one!   These are those kodak moments which are priceless!    We can bring in a variety of common, and not so common animals and give the opportunity for a small group to look, pet and/or hold some creatures that they may never had seen before!    These programs are popular at personal care facilities, private parties, small classrooms, and the like.    We maintain control of the animals at all times and a waiver of release is required.     Our animals are kept as clean as possible and are healthy but we still require a waiver and ask everyone to wash their hands after touching any animal whether it be one of ours or your pet dog at home.    Let TURTLE WORLD bring a "mini petting zoo" right into your living room!    Animals in this program vary depending upon availability.
