The BLANDINGS turtle is one of the three species in
Pennsylvania that has movable SHELL parts!

The BOG turtle prefers SPHAGNUM MOSS bogs to live in.

The Eastern BOX TURTLE is Pennsylvania's only true land turtle.

The top part of a turtles shell is called the CARAPCE.

The Pennsylvania FISH N BOAT Commission govern reptiles and amphibians in Pennsylvania

There are FOURTEEN species of turtles listed as native to the commonwealth.

The Eastern PAINTED TURTLE can be found in many of the LAKES in Pennsylvania

The tiny MUD turtle has two "hinges" on its PLASTRON which allow it to move parts of it's shell.

The MUSK TURTLE is also called the STINKPOT turtle due to an odor it can omit!

The PAINTED TURTLE is the one of the more common turtles found in a POND in Pennsylvania.

The REDBELLIED TURTLE is the largest ENDANGERED turtle we have in Pennsylvania.

The MAP TURTLE can be found in the Susquehanna RIVER drainage areas.

Every turtle is a REPTILE and a SCALE on a turtle's SHELL is called a SCUTE.

Most common turtle in Pennsylvania is the Common SNAPPING TURTLE.

The SOFTSHELL turtles do not have a hard protective shell.

A good area to find SPOTTED turtles would be in a MARSH or SWAMP.

There are TWO PAINTED turtles that may be found in Pensylvania.

The North American WOOD TURTLE usually is found close to a wooded STREAM.

We all need to do our part to help PROTECT the turtles we have here in the commonwealth.
