Reptiles of Turtle World

These programs cover what makes a reptile so unique.   We utilize live non-venomous animals from the snake, crocodilian, lizard and turtle and tortoise groups.    We also touch on reptiles in the pet trade as well as reptiles on television.   This is by far our most popular and most asked for program.    It is adaptable for any age group and designed for audiences of all ages.    This program is popular with elementary schools, State Parks, nature centers and so on.   We always invite questions and under most circumstances if desired are able to provide a reptile for participants to touch.     For more details send us an e-mail at:   turtleworldsam@comcast.net

Snakes!!                       Yes that is Ronald McDonald!
You guessed it - this program is all about those awesome serpents!   We go beyond a squirming serpent show.    We dwell into the snakes behavior and abilities; define what to do and what not to do when a person encounters these creatures in the wild; define why they are important in the human world; and so much more!    Again we use no venomous species and each snake is handled.   Often if so requested we will have a snake available for the participants to pet and get close too.   This program, although geared for any age, seems to be more popular in mixed audiences of all ages.   This program is often requested by State Parks and Nature Centers.    If you would more detail on this program, send us an e-mail and we would be happy to assist you!     E-mail us at:  turtleworldsam@comcast.net

Snakes Of Pennsylvania
 Turtles Of Pennsylvania

These programs are two separate slide presentations.   We accompany each slide with details of the species and offer other pertinent information as well.   Often we are able to have a live specimen or two on display for participant to safely view before or after the slide presentation.    We do not carry a screen, so this program is available only where a screen can be provided.     This is a popular program in State Parks, campgrounds, and nature groups. For more details send us an e-mail at:   turtleworldsam@comcast.net

  Turtle World Educational Displays
Our displays have become very popular as "drawing cards" for events and functions such as sport shows and community activities.  We can set a display up indoors or (temperatures permitting) outdoors.    Our outdoor displays normally require a 10X20 foot space (size of our tent) and availability to electricity for lighting.   All animals are displayed in a manner that permits "close up viewing" with no chance of animal /human contact.    The displays can include a variety of reptiles representing snakes, lizards , crocodilians and of course turtles!    Each reptile has a tag explaining not only what it is but facts about it as well.    Many community events will advertise that we will be part of their event to help promote the event overall.    We also will list the event on our web site program schedule page and provide a link to their web site if so desired.     If you would like Turtle World to be part of your event,, drop us a line and we will be happy to help in anyway we can.    E-mail us at:   turtleworldsam@comcast.net

The American Alligator

This program is on - of course - The American Alligator!     We also will go over
gators in the pet trade, gator farming, gator leather industry and lots of other
gator facts.   We will bring along a couple of crocodilians and if all goes well,
keep one out after the show to permit  those present and have a desire to touch
one!     This is about a 45 minute program.

Pet Responsibility

Too often individuals purchase an animal for a pet not realizing what they are getting in to!    We feel that since our purpose is to educate, conserve, and provide homes for unwanted pets, that we need to address the issue that is the start of all of this.    So we have developed the program entitled: "Pet Responsibility".   Here we utilize various "pets" to teach proper pet responsibility.    We explain how every animal is different and how some are not the ideal pet for everyone.    We touch on the legal responsibilities of pet ownership.       We also discuss moral responsibility .    We truly believe that "one living creature can never own another; one can only own the responsibility of taking care of that creature".   We discuss the role of the breeders, the pet shop, and the care taker of the pet.    We utilize many different types of animals in this program which may include any combination of:  rabbits; hamsters; gerbils; guinea pigs; mice; ferrets; dogs; snakes; lizards; turtles; tortoises; crocodilians; and so on.      This is a new program started in 2005 and so far has been well received.    It is geared toward classroom size groups and although valuable to all ages, was originally designed to address school age children.  It is a great program for elementary classes, summer activity groups, 4H groups, even retirement and nursing homes!    We hope that Pet Shops will see the value of this type of program as well and utilize it as a type of customer service seminar.    We stress the fact that many of the animals we utilize and care for have been adopted in via one reason or another.    If you would like to discuss this program in more detail, send us an e-mail at:  turtleworldsam@comcast.net

Birthday Party Programs

Our birthday party programs are very flexible.   We will do a presentation
and if requested will have an animal available for the "partiers" to touch,
hold and/or get a picture taken with!    We do not provide any refreshments,
party favors, decorations or anything other than the entertainment.    We are
more than willing to help by giving you ideas and suggestions regarding any
particular theme you may want to use.

Animal Connections:

Ever see the look on a child's face when they touch a snake for the first time?   Or how about an elderly person who has never seen a ferret before and gets an opportunity to hold one!   These are those Kodak moments which are priceless!    We can bring in a variety of common, and not so common animals and give the opportunity for a small group to look, pet and/or hold some creatures that they may never had seen before!    These programs are popular at personal care facilities, private parties, small classrooms, and the like.    We maintain control of the animals at all times and a waiver of release is required.     Our animals are kept as clean as possible and are healthy but we still require a waiver and ask everyone to wash their hands after touching any animal whether it be one of ours or your pet dog at home.    Let TURTLE WORLD bring a "mini petting zoo" right into your living room!    Animals in this program vary depending upon availability.

Welcome to:

Lockhaven University  Earth Day Celebration 2007

What a GREAT day!   The weather was absolutely beautiful, there were tons of activities for all ages, everyone was in the spirit of the day and fun was everywhere!    As usual, Lockhaven pulled off another successful event.    There was great music and activities all day.   What a wonderful group of people.    Turtle World was sponsored by the biology club as were several other tables there.   There was even a live sturgeon there for everyone to see close up and first hand!    Between the face painting, bird feeders, solar ovens, walking sticks, jewelry, Haven chia pets and everything else, everyone found something that they could enjoy.
Check out these pics and set your calendar for 2008 Earth Day at Lockhaven university!

Sam and Turtle World are grateful to the Lockhaven Biology Club. A wonderful day spent with wonderful people.

Lockhaven University  Earth Day Celebration

Although it was a cool day, it did warm up briefly in the afternoon before a small shower rolled in.
But what was amazing is the event rolled on without a problem!
The jello wresters were chilled but hey if your crazy enough to dive into a pool of jello than everything else is probably irrelevant!
There were good bands playing all day long.   As soon as one was done another set up and continued.
In between there demonstrations and so on to entertain everyone.
There were numerous displays from student societies and organizations to PA State agencies.   Private displays as well.

If you are looking for a good time be sure to join us in being part of:

Earth Day 2006
at
Lockhaven  University

Weather did not co-operate again this year but the ground was all that was dampened!    The celebration was relocated and all went on as planned.    Several activities were going on that day at the university, however we were pleased to be part of the one that April 22nd is all about.   From bugs, birds, and bands to homade ice cream made by your own hands, the entire day was alot of fun for everyone!

Missed it?     Mark your calendar for 2007!

Father's Day Weekend At Ricketts Glenn State Park 2006

We couldn't have had a better weekend!    The weather was absolutely beautiful!    It was warm to hot in most places but at Ricketts there was always a gentle breeze blowing and plenty of shade to be found.    So while other were sweating it out we were comfortably lounging about!      We did little but relax that weekend.    True we had a program on Saturday evening but it went well with a "standing room only" crowd.     Sam was particularly pleased that there were several individuals that came to the park that evening JUST to take in his program!   It is an honor to have such well attended programs.

Arriving friday night we were set up in no time and had just started to relax around a campfire when a black bear dropped in to say hello!   It was a yearling and our guess weighed a little over 100 pounds but cute.    We kept our smarts and did not feed it or entice it in anyway and after a few moments of excitement (no doubt for both parties) the bear moved on to raid another site.     Little did we know at the time there would be a total of seven different bears in the park before the weekend was over!    Sam was disappointed because he was about ten feet away from this guy and could not get to his camera!      As always with this park, wildlife was all around us.   We saw bear, deer, raccoon, red squirrel, grey squirrel, a garter snake, momma and baby ducks, dozens of different birds, and of course chipmunks!    At night we listened to the many different frogs calling for mates and claim shoreline for them selves.   We heard owls and thought we heard some coyotes of the far distance.    Many of the evening hours were spent around a wonderful campfire guessing at the source of the different sound emanating from the curtain of trees.

Ali had fun as well.    She enjoyed the wildlife and the nature walks and the scavenger hunt and ....!     One thing was for sure, when she laid down in the night to go to bed, she was almost instantly asleep.    Miss Judy (park naturalist) enlighten many of the children visiting the park about the many things in nature that surround them.   Ali later would be seen out and about picking mushrooms and trying to find different types of ferns and of course discovering chipmunk holes!    She had her scooter that she rode about and brought along a book to read as well.   And we shant forget the old campfire standby ... marshmallows and somors!       Here are some pictures taken of just a few of the great moments.   Thank you everyone for making it an enjoyable weekend for us!
